Is the problem the opener, the door—or both?

Repair or Replace?
The symptom does not tell the whole story.
A stopped, noisy, or reversing opener does not automatically need replacement. It also should not be repaired in isolation when the door is heavy, binding, damaged, or poorly reinforced.
Repair may make sense
The door is balanced, the opener is otherwise sound, parts are available, and the failure is isolated to a control, sensor, setting, wiring issue, or serviceable component.
Replacement may make sense
Parts are obsolete, failures keep returning, the equipment is incompatible or structurally compromised, or the practical repair cost no longer makes sense.
A new door may keep its opener
If the existing opener is properly sized, safely attached, compatible, and operating correctly, replacing the door does not automatically require replacing the opener.
A new opener will not fix a heavy door. Broken or incorrectly sized springs, binding track, damaged hardware, and structural problems must be corrected at the door system.

Why does my garage door work by hand but not with the opener?
If the door moves smoothly and stays reasonably balanced by hand, the fault is more likely in the opener or its controls. LIFTX checks the photo eyes, wiring, settings, trolley, motor, and door balance before recommending a repair.
Why will my garage door opener not close the door?
Misaligned or obstructed safety sensors are common, but wiring, travel settings, force settings, track resistance, or a mechanical door problem can cause similar behavior. The complete system should be checked before changing settings.
Can LIFTX install a wall-mount garage door opener?
Yes, when the door has a compatible torsion system, enough side room, suitable power, and proper structural support. LIFTX verifies the setup before recommending a wall-mount opener.
Should I replace the garage door opener when I replace the door?
Not necessarily. If the existing opener is properly sized, safely attached, compatible with the new door, and still operating well, it can usually stay. LIFTX inspects it and explains whether keeping or replacing it makes more sense.
Will a new opener fix a heavy or unbalanced garage door?
No. The springs counterbalance the door’s weight. A new opener should not be used to compensate for a broken spring, incorrect spring setup, binding track, damaged hardware, or an otherwise heavy door.
