The Repair Process

Door Balance & Opener Strain
No. With the opener disconnected, a properly balanced door should lift by hand without excessive force and stay near halfway open. If it feels very heavy, drops, or rises on its own, stop using it and have the spring balance inspected.
If the opener bracket, reinforcement, or backing begins pulling away from the top section, stop operating the door. The door may be too heavy, out of balance, improperly reinforced, or experiencing more than one problem.
Grinding, slowing, stopping, reversing, rail movement, or a trolley that struggles to move the door can indicate a balance problem rather than an opener problem alone.
When the system is safe to test, the door should move without excessive force and should not rapidly fall or shoot upward. A door that will not remain reasonably controlled needs inspection.
